Project wardrobe rejuvenation is going pretty well. No vintage this week, but plenty of second hand schmutter. Despite the fact that I am currently cold, pasty and hungover you'll notice that they're all rather optimistic of warm weather and a tan. Luckily, I'm off to Malta in a couple of weeks.
Silk and sequinned Ted Baker top £5.00
Crochet look crossback top - brand new with tags on £4.00
More sequins on this Topshop vest - £3.00
Heidi Klein beach kaftan with dancing figures print - sample £5.00
I might Ebay this one. I made a tenner on the Boden dress I found a couple of weeks ago
Brand new soft leather hobo style handbag £6.00
I love this, it fits everything you can imagine
I'd love to do more outfit posts, but the camera is rarely my friend, and concurrent project 'eat healthily and look slimmer' was slightly derailed by ending up in an eating establishment here last night:
Oh well, at least I got some exercise before the curry, we were on a treasure hunt for a friend's birthday which took us all round Jack the Ripper's old stomping ground. The East End might not be the prettiest area of London, but it has some great photo opportunities. If you go on Sunday, there's also the Petticoat Lane and Columbia Road markets.
Wall at the corner of Fashion St, East End.
Intriguing doorway...
Stencilled graffiti - Banksy style but without his subversive humour
This was my favourite. The chair and hooded monks are paper cut outs just a couple of inches high glued to the bottom of the wall down a random street. The shadows are painted on the pavement. Cool huh?
(nb. For international readers not acquainted with Cockney rhyming slang, a Ruby is short for Ruby Murray and means a curry)

The beach kaftan is so cute! Love Brick Lane and Columbia Road xxx
ReplyDeleteGot to love the east end! I even went on one of those Jack the Ripper night walks once - awesome! lol. The monks and the chair is amazing, my fave of the bunch too. Scarlett x
ReplyDeleteWhat a classy haul! Love that bag, it looks butter soft.
ReplyDeleteLove the street shots and that quirky door. It's been years since I last went to Malta, I'd love to go back. xxx
A very visually stimulating post Lakota-love it! Great finds clothes wise, I just can't resist blacks and greys and when there's a bit of sparkle I feel more justified (there's a goth inside waiting to come out, maybe when I'm 40).
ReplyDeleteOH and I were discussing Malta this morning, he's never met his dad, who is half Maltese. We'll visit one day, see if he has an affinity with the place.
The graffiti on both walls is excellent, I love well designed and executed stuff, really livens up the place. Hope your hangover has eased, kids make it 100 times more painful don't they!?
Great finds...love the Ted baker top ;-)) Have a lovely week, dee x
ReplyDeleteThe dancer/ballerina print on the kaftan is *beautiful* xx
ReplyDeleteHi there-fabulous tops, what a lovely selection-the beach top is gorgeous, great finds!! xx
ReplyDeleteFabulous tops, Lakota. Ooooh Malta, we went there about 4 years ago and loved it. Sure you will too.
ReplyDeleteYay for Brick Lane and Columbia Rd - two of my favourite haunts.
Oh that bag looks amazing - that's my fave of the whole lot. Just fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI moved to London (for only 8 months in 2008) and hubby loved to take me to Brick Lane on Sundays - it blew my mind, after coming from a tiny village in France.
Oh and yes those monks are great.
This all makes me want to go to London for a weekend and see it all again.
i love all of the tops you bought and great bargain too! so envious!! more envious that you're going to Malta soon!! will miss you and your posts!! eleven and a half door, hmmm i wonder what that means and what's in it?? and the grafitti of three hooded monks with the shadows on the pavement are sooooo cool tho i might feel abit scared if i saw it at night and walk alone there hehehe, never been to brick lane and columbia rd, but would love to go there if i get a chance! ahhh so that's what ruby means hehe :) i learnt more everyday! x Susan
ReplyDeleteI too was able to find some clothes with the tags still on them! It was so much fun!!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds!
Smiles,
The Joyful Thrifter
that "graffiti" on our house I could live with!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are ready to par-tay with those gorgeous tops. Brilliant monk grafitti. Thanks for defining the rhyming slang...that is very obscure...you have to wonder who Ruby Murray was!
ReplyDeleteThat hand bag in just what I have been looking for. What a great find.
ReplyDeletelove your glam sequined tops! that last picture reminds me of medieval gregorian singers...very haunting and mysterious! =)

love your finds and looove the east end, I think it is the most exciting area of london :) and pretty in its own way ;)
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos! Haven't been over that way in years, must get there. x
ReplyDeleteGosh, great finds. Lovely sparkles. Oh London how I miss thee ♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteThe kaftan is GORJUS!!!
ReplyDeleteLoving your 'Bed Taker' top and the pretty kaftan. You'll be a hit on the beach.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are amazing - must take a trip up the East End, I haven't been for years. x
Thanks for the definition. I just told my husband about it and he didn't believe me. After confirming on Wiki,he has now defined a Ruby as a takeaway curry only, no home cooked. (He is on holidays, and I think it is time to go back to work, he is getting very argumtative)
ReplyDeleteReally MUST get to Brick Lane more often! Lovvvve that tan handbag- looking for one like that for ages, but don't want the massive price tag! great finds :)
ReplyDeleteGreat new tops!! And I love the bag,
ReplyDeleteVictoria xx
That handbag is AMAZEBALLS!
ReplyDeleteGreat thrifty finds.
Amazing images and great finds too. I like the top you are thinking of ebaying. The other ones are very much my mum's style as she loved black and sequins and glitz. My finds appear this week on http://celebratingmums.wordpress.com
ReplyDeleteWow! What beautiful finds! I love the handbag!!
ReplyDeleteI adore the handbag and the kaftan.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn’t part with that handbag! Sadly I am old enough to remember who Ruby Murray was, being the granny here:) She was a popular warbler in the fifties and sixties - though I don’t think there’s any connection with curry, just that it rhymes.
ReplyDeleteI am such a huge fan of Banksy...Just had to say that. I hear ya on project fashion rejuv. Trying to do the same thing. I say here in what a month, we both take the dive and start taking pictures of ourselves IN the clothes. You keep the Klein its cute as F$$$$.:)
ReplyDeleteOh I forgot, the bag does it have a name because that is a high quality bag, I can see it just from the picture.
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! I love all the pics you shared too, but that pic of the monks is amazing. I just love it and can't stop looking at it! I want to thank you for the introduction to Ruby! I love curry and plan on incorporating this bit of slang into my vocab! Even if I'm the only one around who'll get it. =D
ReplyDeleteLakota, you always do such amazing blog posts, this one is no exception. Love that bag it looks like it is soooo soft and the beach top. I would so love to know what is behind no Eleven and a Half ! xx
ReplyDeleteI'm in LOVE with that beach top with the pink dancers on it, gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteStreet art is so facinating isn't it!! Lovely buys too you cant go wrong with a bit of sparkle x
ReplyDeleteGreat finds loveeeee the bag
ReplyDeleteOooh I love your tops and I so want that bag...I love it, what a bargain! ;)) x
ReplyDeleteOoh great bargains, love the beach top, really cute pattern! :)
ReplyDeleteHa ha, you were there also! How funny we didn't take the same photos!!!! I like the monks- wish I'd seen those!!!!
ReplyDeleteAwesome buys! I particularly love the crochet top, very cute. And the street art was just the inspiration I needed today :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the bag - what an absolute bargain - well done you!! (a very envious me!!)
ReplyDeleteBH x
I miss the UK when you show us that kind of quirky humour. The French admire our quirky humour in art etc, but they don't do it... I shall look out for good street art when I'm in London! And some really good finds there, too! Enjoy Malta...
ReplyDeleteLove the hobo bag! And My Mum used to take me to Brick Lane every week as a child but we just used to call it 'The Lane'...Lots of fab memories from that place x
ReplyDeletelove the bag and great pics of the east end.
ReplyDeleteSuch great finds, as always! I never find great clothes, thrifty style...
ReplyDeleteAhhh...such a long time since I was at Petticoat Lane and many years ago I did the Jack the Ripper walk...love all that sort of stuff. Just thinking the other day I should have a jaunt to Spitalfields as it's been yonks too!
Am going to check out those other links! x
Loving the second crochet top! And that graffiti just makes my miss London so much, getting so excited about visiting again, never thought I would be so excited to give up sunny beaches for grey streets but seriously cant wait to come home!
ReplyDeleteGreat post - I adore street art! Loved your pictures. I will not comment on the handbag.......oh OK I will - I love the handbag! I bet it feels fabulous! A real bargain too!
