Just a quick post this morning. As I have been on a cardmaking course recently I thought I'd link up to Handmade Thursday at White Lily Green and Thrifty Things Friday at The Thrifty Groove and share a few I've made. Some are techniques I learned on the course, others are designs I've been making at home for a while.
Back row L-R: Peel off sticker painted with inks / engagement card with punched paper, scraps, embellishments / new baby card with Mulberry paper and stamps
Front row L-R - embossed and cut out candles / iris folded design / embossing and inking
Stamped and painted with inks
New baby card knitted with embroidery thread on cocktail sticks! No, I don't have a life...
Origami fish cards - I've been making these fish since I was about 11!
Sorry about the photo quality
Home made cards are so much cheaper than all but the flimsiest of shop designs - it's not unusual to pay £3.00 for a 'hand-finished' card these days. And of course - hand finished can just mean that someone stuck a sequin onto each machine printed mass produced card. I was in Marylebone (wealthy area of London) recently and one shop was asking £6.00 for a similar hand crafted origami card! My version probably cost a maximum of 25p.
It is nice to have a few hours of making things, but I am quite seriously the messiest worker ever - resembling a toddler let loose in a craft department. How do I end up with glitter on my face even when I haven't been using it? Is it just me?!

ReplyDeletelovely cards and im the same as you the messiest crafter ever the house ends up covered in glitter if i use it lol
ReplyDeleteHello Lakota:
ReplyDeleteWe are hugely impressed having no practical skills whatsoever. Your cards are not only highly original but great fun too. We particularly like the one for a new baby!
Hi Lakota, I know what you mean about glitter. The last time my daughter had it out it ended up all over the sofa (eeeeek!). Love the oragami cards especially, you clever little crafter you.
ReplyDeleteOhh I love them all!! you are very talented! Haha - Glitter gets everywhere!! Don't know where it comes from half the time either! lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up!
Oh my these are cute! love the little knitting!! ADORABLE!! :-)
ReplyDeleteAll fab! You did a superb job!
Maggy
Fantastic cards! The fish ones are cute.
ReplyDeleteVictoria xx
Lovely cards - and no, you are not alone - I get felt pen on my elbows and glue in my hair and glitter on my nose too!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your origami fish cards! Incredibly cute and your embossed birthday candles are a close second, they look great :-)
ReplyDeleteI seem to get absolutely plastered in whatever I'm working with too, be it painting, wrapping presents, making cards I somehow get sellotape or paint splodges in the oddest places and the frequently don't realise!
Jem xXx
lol....glitter it just seems to get everywhere its like sand ;-)) Love the little knitted one thats so cute, have fun, dee x
ReplyDeleteI have to agree; it's the knitted one for me too.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a lovely load of crafty gorgeousness! I really love them all but the fishes and candles really do it for me! Thank you for droping by my blog and cheering me up during my awol!! love Annie xx
ReplyDeleteThe iris folded design catches my attention, but they are all lovely. You could easily sell these for £3 a time. I made 100 Christmas cards last year and thought the boys had nits, the glitter was finding it's way to our heads! The dining and kitchen table glisten with red gold and green -I feel a song coming on....
ReplyDeleteDo you find being a SAHM helps get the creative juices flowing?
woot! love all the cards that you made, Lakota! my very fave is the knitted baby card with embroidery and cocktail sticks and also the origami fish!! they're so adorable!! i also love the candles one, i wish I could join a course on card making too but i am also a messy crafter so dont worry, you're not alone! :) xx Susan
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful cards! I especially like the iris one. Thanks for stopping by my blog and becoming a follower. I am returning the favor and becoming a follower of your blog as well.
ReplyDeleteOoh clever. Really like the candles, and the hedgehog is sweet, like the gorgeous ones you got in the 70's but never see any more. I'm inspired!
ReplyDeleteOh, you cards are just too cute! And that one with the "knitting needles" was so clever of you! I would say you are quite talented! thank you for joining TTF. I hope you have a woderful Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteLOL, no you're not the only one that ends up with glitter on them when they haven't been using it: I belong to that club too!
ReplyDeleteLovely cards, very pretty xxx
Hi there-a very good idea indeed, they really are fabulous and the baby one is my favourite, the knitting is so cute!! xx
ReplyDeleteLovely cards! I can't craft without making a mess!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, really lovely!! I really like the iris-folding- never got around to trying it even though I have a kit and several easy to follow designs! Did you use bubble wrap on the fish one? I did that for a fish card! They are genius- I am sooo rubbish at origami- only the most basic of teabag folding can I manage! When I have a card-making sesh, CHAOS reigns supreme- entropy increases! Mess is like describing a shark as a large tadpole!
ReplyDeletereally lovely :) unfortunately, I'm not very talented when it comes to crafting :/
ReplyDeleteP.S.: You have won an award from me :) Just have a look at http://hippiebohoreloaded.blogspot.com/2011/05/hi-there-first-sorry-for-beeing-absent.html
Great cards, I was lamenting the same about the expense of hand finished cards to my friend just the other day and decided that I was going to have a go at making some myself, think I will defo have to have a go now! x
ReplyDeleteOh, you are very talented! I especially love the baby card...so creative!
ReplyDeletethese are so great - when I try to make cards they just turn into a mass of Pritt Stick and randomness. I always end up covered in glitter too - even though I never use it! I think I've tried every craft under the sun and never been successful :(
ReplyDeleteAdore! adore! adore! the knitting on the cocktail sticks, brilliant
ReplyDeleteHey Hun - im back! lol. Loving your cards, the knitting one is amazing! Your crafty little minx mwah Scarlett x
