The future's orange

It's been half term and I've not been feeling that great recently, so I haven't really been doing much in the way of second-hand shopping. Also, I've got to be honest and say when I have looked, very little has really jumped out at me. If anyone could send me some thrift karma I'd be very grateful. However, I did find this  - which given the fact it's bright orange, with lairy 70s flowers on it, even I couldn't miss.

Tala Bread Bin

It cost me £3, and doesn't have a chip or a dent on it. Not only that, but it matches my nails.

Pretending I've got a Lamborghini
[Matching your nails to your bread-bin proves you're in advanced stages of housewifery]

By happy co-incidence the tea-towel which lovely Loo sent me yesterday is also sporting an eye-popping orange floral, reminding me of my parents' bedroom wallpaper when I was tiny. Loo's parcel cheered me up no end, wrapped in the tea-towel was also a Habitat canvas shopping bag - I love the peacock and fox design - a birdy brooch from Acorn and Will and a rather marvellous 'build your own' cardboard crocodile. I made him immediately and he is currently guarding my earrings. She also cleverly made the box for the brooch herself - using orange origami paper.

Also on the orange theme - check out what I found when we were getting suitcases down from the loft recently. I bought these trousers round about 1996 and wore them not only clubbing but just generally out and about. I like to think that these are future vintage. It's no wonder I wore sunglasses almost permanently then...

Mid 90s skin-tight kick-flare leggings

Sadly I don't have any photos of me rocking these, I will have to ask around.
I'm not sure how many of you will appreciate this - but I'll leave you with club classic The Orange Theme by Cygnus X. Happy nights days...

Lakota x

  9. I remember that design on the breadbin from first time round, on coffee and tea canisters I think. The tea -towel is very reminscent of my parents’ kitchen wallpaper at the time; we had a lot of orange!

    1. I want that bread bin - it is pefection! You don't need to find a lot of other stuff when you fall upon a great find like that. I'd say you still have some thrifting karma love.

Loving the general orangeyness of your post and hope that you're feeling better soon.

PS I feel well blue today so am glad of a bit of your orange. Thanks!

  17. Loving the bread bin, and the matching nails even more! All of the goodies you got in your parcel are even lovelier still, including that gorgeous shopper!

I remember distinctly being annoyed that I just couldnt rock the lyrca clubwear trend, what with being slightly podgy at the time (large thighs and bum do not appreciate being encased in such materials), but having seen your lovely pair I'm actually quite glad that said trend passed me by!

  18. Very fond of orange! My friend Sue has the most gorgeous retro orange kitchen, the breadbin would be right at home! I had some rather groovy fake Pucci leggings I loved - I'd wear them under a black velvet hotpants cat-suit thing and thought I looked like an extra from a James Bond film!

  19. Love the nails - matching nails with fab kitchenware is stuff of domestic goddessdom! The leggings reminded me of the Deee Lite video for Groove is in the Heart - now reminiscing courtesy of You-Tube :)Good times indeed!

I'll send all my thrifting karma your way, I wont be needing it for a while as I'm not going near a second hand shop until after we have completed the living room! xxx

  30. I adore your bread bin Lakota and all of Loo's awesome presents. Maybe you should eat some oranges if you've been feeling unwell, you know vitamin c and all that...or are you feeling miserable because of all the crappy house-stuff?
Sending you thrift shop karma (I don't op-shop much these days, so I've got plenty to spare) and a hug. Hope you feel better soon x

p.s. I am so glad you can't see my appalling finger nails.

  31. I love the bread bin and the fact it matches your nails is just perfect.

You are not alone, in the 90's I had a pair of wide leg, shiny bright red pants. I cringe at the thought of them! I have moved about a lot so thankfully they haven't come back to haunt me - but there are always the photos....ugh...

  40. That bread bin is amazing. Orange you glad you bought it? (sorry, I couldn't resist!) But orange is strangely delicious to me as of late- is it the appeal of the perfection of the optimism of its hue? Your nails on the Lamberghini, I mean bread bin are great too- a squeeze of citrusy goodness!

  41. yep I can just see you dancin around your kitchen with ya new funky bread bin to that track!! and how I wish I had a picture of the incredibly hideous lycra style flares I used to wear in my clubbing days...I got a little to in to UV colours and fractal patterns..scary stuff! x
