Estelle is running her 'Mantelpiece Monday' feature over at Fortune Favours today, so I thought I'd join in with a few quick snaps. This is the fireplace in my bedroom, and although I have a dressing table, any prettifying does tend to be done standing at this mirror, hence the collection of creams and perfumes which have gathered on the right of the mantelpiece.
The glass candlesticks were a present from my husband and are from Graham and Green, the mirror was from an art deco fair - and was expensive, but I love it - and the photo is currently my grandparents on their wedding day. Russian dolls present from husband - picture of them all here.
Glass and tortoiseshell dressing table pot from 20s (the inside lid is mirrored, very handy), random charity shop swan vase, small bronze owl - Minerva, goddess of wisdom and war, given to me by my dad.
Tiny wooden Japanese dolls - posing with their even tinier babies, which you can store inside them. I've had these since I was a child and rediscovered them recently at my parents' house.
Not the most organised shelf , but the mantelpiece itself is only a few inches wide, so not much fits on it! Why not go over and nose at other people's more carefully curated collections?

How wonderful to have such pretty things to look at when you lie in bed! Really really lovely.
ReplyDeleteThat mirror is fantastic!
Ooh lots of lovely, and that's one fantastic looking fireplace. hard to single out any particular things as I pretty much love it all, but was I to burgle you the 20's tortoise shell lidded pot would be in my swag bag for sure x
ReplyDeleteVery glam! I love G&G pieces - but stick to online window-shopping;) I am in awe of your candle display - you must be very good at dusting! Funnily enough I took a pic of my dining room mantelpiece - it was going to be "Mantelpiece Today Part 2" - the original post received one or 2 interesting comments re types of top-shelf publications of that name! I'll put the pic up now - there are wooden dolls on mine too. x
ReplyDeleteLovely! I love the dolls and, of course, the peacock feathers. My MIL said it's bad luck to display them - somthing to do with the 'evil eye'. They're so beautiful, I don't care. Lovely fireplace too.
ReplyDeletegorgeous gorgeous mirror! im not surprised it's expensive! love the cute japanese dolls and the candles on the mantlepiece, how nice to have a mantlepiece in the bedroom too! mine is so small and cramped and dont think it'll have more room for a mantlepiece. x Susan
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fireplace! I'm planning on making a bit of a feature of my little fireplace in my bedroom...It needs a mantel and some pretty things sitting on it like yours x
ReplyDeleteabsolutely love your 20's pieces! the russian dolls are so cute :)
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to have a mantelpiece in your bedroom and you have some lovely pieces displayed on it. I've heard a similar thing as zigsma, although I was told it's bad luck to have peacock feathers in the house at all. Who cares though, they're too pretty to hide away!
ReplyDeleteOoh I do love a good mantlepiece and fireplace. Unfortunately, our Victorian house has not one fireplace left (or any orginal feature in any shape or form). So, yet again, Lakota, I'm well jel (must stop saying that). xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty fireplace and in your bedroom, you are so lucky! love the bits and bobs you have on display :)
ReplyDeleteBee happy x
Have a delicious day!
Thanks Lakota my bad as I got yours and another swap mixed up Me and Karlyn have been in contact from the start xx
ReplyDeleteI am beyond jelly of your fireplace in the bedroom! I need to get me one of them! Looks lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love your Kokeshi dolls so sweet, and to have had them way before they were fashionable. I believe they call that 'trend setting' yes?
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see a close up of the Gramp's on they're wedding day.
also, that mirror is amazeballs!
Oh that's not fair!! Would you believe I don't have a single mantelpiece? The previous owners ripped out all the original fireplaces (I know) and we can't afford to put any back in yet. I love this idea though and the contents of yours are lovely, especially the photo and the peacock feather, oh and that mirror too.
ReplyDeleteI like it all, especially the gorgeous mirror, pretty without being twee. I don't have any fireplaces either, I ripped the cheap and nasty fire surround off when I moved in and ended up realising I needed the wall more than a fireplace. I do miss having a focal point (other than the TV). Problem with me is I'll fill a shelf with pens, bottles of calpol, bills and so on!
ReplyDeleteThats a beautiful fireplace, I love period feature. BTW, we have the exact same owl too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea showing off your mantlepiece treasures, there could, in fact, be a blog party dedicated entirely to mantlepiece paraphernalia... now there's an idea! First item that caught my eye - the peacock feather, love it!
ReplyDeleteOops I mean there could be an entire BLOG dedicated to mantlepiece paraphernalia, seeing as there is already a blog link up..anyway, love this
ReplyDeletelove the juice set, I've never seen anything like it before.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I especially love the peacock feathers!
ReplyDelete:)

You have exactly the same fireplace as I have in my bedroom, except mine is painted cream. I have wanted to paint my black but my husband couldnt 'visualise' it!! Now I can show him yours !! It looks lovely
ReplyDeleteWe're totally mantlepiece free in my house and I'm rather envious of yours! The deco mirror is utterly stunning - what a find!!

I now spend a survey of bloggers with such questions.
1. Why did you create a blog?
2. For whom you taking him? Want to be popular?
3. How long will it keep going?

Oh, it's lovely! That peacock feather adds real glam to the mix and I adore Minerva. Isn't it funny that in India they regard the owl as foolish as it flies at night?
ReplyDeleteLoved your outfit post, your head is as gorgeous as your figure, we need to see more of it! x
Wow, what a beautiful scene!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your lovely comments on my blog x Quite a few people have said that my blog doesn't update in their feeds or blog roll thingys, I've no idea what I've done or not done! Bloody blogger help section doesn't really help .....grrrrrr!
