Midweek pretties

I do love a bit of vintage jewellery. The boys and I dropped some clothes off at the charity shop, and while the eldest browsed the bookshelves for 'Beast Quest' books, I had a quick rummage through the saucer of  earrings on the counter. These were very tarnished, although I don't think they're silver, and one of the tiny pyrite stones is missing, but I thought they were worth £1.95.

A previous owner liked them enough to mend them, as they have different clips on the back.

I've been having a play with the photo effects in Picasa - trying to make a bit more of an effort with my pictures. I quite like this HDR look, what do you think?

I found this marcasite brooch in a junk shop a couple of years ago. It's a pretty good match for the earrings. Now I just need an emerald green evening dress and a suitable event to wear them all too...

  1. I would say the earrings are a bargain at twice the price. Very pretty.
Here's is hoping you get to wear them to a fun glam event soon.

  2. Wow - both of those are stunning. I actually bought new earrings on Saturday - I have no idea when I last walked into a shop and bought some new jewellery... OK, maybe last summer... I do prefer it thrifted, though. What about earrings for pierced ears? Would you buy them second hand and wear them?

    1. I would and I have - although I do sit them in some boiling water first (where possible) and then wipe them over with antibac spray.

  3. The green of the stones in the earrings is just lovely - so spring like! I'm not generally a nail polish person but Barry M has one called 'Spring Green' I think which is almost the same shade if you fancied getting matchy-matchy!

The star of the show is the marcasite brooch though - what an absolute STUNNER!

  9. Ooh, interesting items! Have you tried The bookpeople website at all for kids books for your boys? They're really really cheap and I'm pretty sure they have Beast \Quest or they did once upon a time!

  10. Luckily for my husband I am not really into jewellery. Would you believe I don't even have an engagement ring? (If I did it would be a great big fat emerald because I like green)
I think you'd look gorgeous in a sumptious green evening dress Lakota, adorned with your new jewels x
