Hello! I've just got back from Edinburgh, and apparently my absence from the internet meant it stopped working - I always thought this might in fact be the case, trees falling in the forest and all that. Anyway, here's a post which was scheduled to be published while I was away, and er, didn't.
You might remember that I put 'learn to make some proper jewellery' on my Spring resolutions list, and as is so often the way with lists, I decided to get going on the most appealing task straight away. [And by 'proper', I meant not held together with glue or made out of lego]. Over the years I must have spent a king's ransom on jewellery bits and pieces - particularly earrings - so I don't know why it's taken me so long to get around to buying the correct equipment and having a go myself. As well as admiring Charis's upcycled jewellery, and Emma's stunning creations using semi-precious stones, I've been looking at my existing earring collection and trying to figure out how they were made. Here's a few of my efforts so far:
Purple and blue glass
Silver filigree and midnight blue sparkle beads
I made these from a bracelet I didn't really wear.
Stripes! These go so well with a monochrome outfit
Hippy love - these glass seed beads are so cute
Some 'non-proper' jewellery attempts
Lakota x
*ok, so this won't happen.
These are beautiful, Lakota! I'm so impressed! I'd be pretty ecstatic if I'd managed to whip these up :-) The purple and blue glass are especially lovely though - the colours are just perfect.

Lovely creations, those hippy ones are my favourite. I hoard so much broken jewellery but never think to do anything quite productive with it and would never trust my own ability to make anything that looked half decent, though it would make a lot more sense xxx
ReplyDeletethey are so pretty! I love making jewellery x
ReplyDeleteThese are LOVELY!! Well done you! I adore the hippy ones, they are my absolute favourite, nicer than anything i've seen in a while!! I make vintage headpieces for weddings, etc, from old brooches and necklaces and I know how rewarding it is once you've finished something - when you look at it and think "wow, I'VE made that!" gives you such a buzz! I will look forward to seeing what you make next; the boho feather earrings sound wonderful xx
ReplyDeleteThey look awesome, good job! My favourite have to be the filigree and midnight blue sparkle ones! I wanted to start making jewellery a few years ago, I bought a few books on the subject and then never started! About a year ago one of my friends started making jewellery and it kinda makes me want to start but not for selling purposes, just to make myself awesome pieces! xxx
ReplyDeleteI've been making earrings for decades, ever since my lovely husband bought me the tools. I don't do many now, except for presents, but I have to say you seem to have the gift of choosing lovely combinations. I covet the turquoise and amethyst colours- right up my street. You'll find you become addicted.
ReplyDeleteWell done for getting on the case with your list so quickly! I'm also surprised it took you until now to start making jewellery, you have a steady hand and a great eye for colour and style. The hippy ones and the black and silver re purposed bangle ones are my favourites.
ReplyDeleteClever! You'll need a second printers tray soon....
U did it! That was quick. My favorite are the stripes. U know I'm a sucker for black and white.
ReplyDeleteYay for getting crafty, I'm attempting to get my butt into gear and make some jewellery bits. I love the hippy ones the best of course. xx
ReplyDeleteyep, the hippy ones are my fave too. Excellent effort getting started on your list l x
ReplyDeleteThese look great! I love the monocrome ones - I also love your non-proper jewellery, especially the 20 pound note bracelet.
ReplyDeletevery pretty earrings, great job! A really good mix of fun and dressy ones. Well done!

ReplyDeleteGorgeous creations, well done you!
ReplyDeleteI like the filigree/dark blue bead ones best. But they are all fabulous - I see a new career ahead...
PS. Did you go to the Camera Obscura while you were in Edinburgh? We love it, it's great for kids. xxx
Yeah, they made me go in the tunnel vortex about a zillion times, Ben had to go through with his eyes closed!
DeleteDo you follow The Folly Bird? She made Vintage Vix and I some amazing earrings. Yours are fabulous and I would definitely buy the hippy ones. Don't put down your previous attempts, that lego heart was GENIUS! would also buy that.
ReplyDeleteGreat make! There'll be no stopping you now. I love to see your feather earrings when you make them :o) Scarlett x
ReplyDeleteI can see it's time to sort out my old jewellery and attempt to upcycle or better still, give the whole lot to you to remake for me! They're lovely - especially the black and white ones.
ReplyDeleteHoly heck Lakota you made some great earrings. I have a store bought pair that look alot like the top ones you made. I also want to make some jewelry... I was thinking of making some necklaces and bracelets from old costume pieces.
ReplyDeleteFirst I need to finish my other crafting projects. *haha*
Gorgeous! Gorgeous! I love them all. Would you like me to do an earring tutorial with a run down of your best jewellery-making equipment and where to buy it on the cheap? If it would help I'd be happy to do it. Just let me know. Thank you so much for the lovely link here, I'm so made up you like my jewellery designs. Big hugs for a happy weekend, Em x
ReplyDeleteEver so clever - and they are really pretty. Must have been fiddly to make..you must have very steady hands.
ReplyDeleteThese are fantastic! I have always wanted to have a go at making jewellery too.
ReplyDeletejob well done Lakota, they look lovely! I'll try & do a tutorial on my wire wrapped ones soon :)
ReplyDeleteOooh well done you, they are proper earrings. They're all fab but my personal faves are the Hippy ones. Being able to say, "Yeah, I made them myself" is definitely one of the best things ever!
