Scrabble tile wishes, or further adventures with a glue-gun [Christmas Decorations Part 2]

Further to my glue-gunned angelic creations, I had a look through my crafting bits and pieces to see what else I could press into service as tree decorations, and remembered the scrabble tiles left over from my ring making phase.

I've seen similar decorations done on actual scrabble racks, but as I don't have any, and even if I did, couldn't be bothered with using a hack-saw to cut them to size, this - as usual - is my easy version. You could do the names of all your family members, or just choose some Christmas-y words like I did. If I was attempting to sell them as a set in a fancy gift shop, I'd suggest they were 'Christmas Wishes', and that you "concentrate on your festive hopes as you hang them on the tree" or some such nonsense. You can if you want, I haven't made 'Mulberry handbag' or 'Pony' yet though. [I'm out of Ys]

There's a 90% chance of one of these

I simply hot glued the tiles together at the edges, and added a screw eye left over from the printer's tray earring holder project as a loop to thread the baker's twine through. If you don't have any screw eyes, you could just glue a loop of ribbon to the back. They're a bit flimsy without anything else holding them together, so I cut some scraps of felt to size and glued them to the reverse.

      ^Last week's hot glue burn

Boy1 hung 'PEACE' on the tree and said seriously, "I'm not really wishing for that". I explained that it referred to 'absence of war' rather than the more commonly requested peace and quiet. He decided that was fair enough. What are you hoping for this Christmas?

  4. Must be the Advent sunday thing as I scalded my left hand today - though I did it with something stupid like hot water:)
Would have been more productive to do it while crafting.

  5. Ouch to the burn - bloody glue guns!! Doesn't stop me messing around with them tho' - "what can I hot glue today?" Love your son's response - haaaaaaaaa!! I've lost all the bloody decorations AND the stand for the tree somewhere in the garage. The Stylist is getting very twitchy about it so a day in the garage it is. Or get out the Scrabble set and start glueing;). Clever you!! xoxo

  6. This is such a lovely idea! I'm addicted to all things Scrabble, but would never have thought to get the glue gun out and start creating a masterpiece with the letters myself! I definitely need your ideas in my life!

    Thank you, you Goddess! Xx

  7. These are just great,I saw them somewhere else in the blogosphere and thought Ah Ha I must get
myself-a-makin' some of those. I only have the yucky plastic ones though... can never find those beautiful wooden letters!
I don't have a glue gun and am not out rushing to get one because the pain of getting burnt seems to outweigh the joy of having one. Maybe you think the reverse? I've seen too many hot glue gun burns recently to convince me :0)

I'm hoping for cosy happy family times together with the odd tipple and lots of fun playing games xox

  8. I'm VERY taken with these. Anything remotely Scrabble-related gets my vote, but there's something extra lovely here.
Peace? That'll do me, it's all I ever want, Christmas or not.
I actually feel quite Christmassy looking at this post. Have you been up to your Ebay magic-trick spell business?

  11. Gin is my favourite.

I told my girls that I was going to buy "them" each a goat and donate it to a third world village on their behalf for Christmas...do you think that went down well?
    Back to the drawing board....

  17. Only a 90% chance of gin? Love, do you need me to send you some?

You're so clever and fabulous - I don't have a xmas tree but if I did, I would totally want to buy some of these from you. If they were wishes, I'd want mine to say 'a job', 'Keanu' and 'cash'.

Love your boy's response to 'peace'!

  22. That is such a good idea, Lakota - I've never seen any decorations made out of Scrabble tiles before. I see that you've suffered for your craft though, as that glue gun burns looks painful

p.S. I'm hoping for a toolkit roll for Archie.

  24. I bought an old Scrabble set for this purpose (crafty makes I mean!) but how do you get the screw eye think into the side of the tile? I am very very clumsy and haven't worked it out yet!
    These are lovely ideas!

I shall be making a snowflake from beads and wire. If I have time and any patience remaining, another beaded bauble will be made.
