Ta-dah! Tuesday - storage satisfaction

Hello, yet another scheduled post today, as I've been away for the long weekend. Hope you had a great weekend dropping 'flotilla' into everyday conversation / criticising the BBC coverage and are now heartily sick of coronation chicken and the union flag. [I suddenly realised that if you start a link party on a particular day you should try to actually have something to post, hence I irritated the husband by insisting that it was urgent I hang and photograph something immediately before we left, rather than packing my washbag, finding children's shoes and other such boring tasks.]

Remember the vintage expanding coat rack I bought? I've finally given it an oiling and got it on my bedroom wall, and it has made all the difference to my jewellery collection. I probably have fewer necklaces than anything else, and I don't tend to wear them nearly as often as earrings, bangles and rings, probably because up til now they've been hidden away in a jewellery box. Those that weren't hidden away were slung over the corner of my dressing table mirror, which looks great and is all very well until you want to wear something, whereupon everything proves to be tangled together in some kind of evil jewellery spaghetti.

Ok, this isn't everything. But it's a lot better

Mr FHCS was not overly thrilled with the prospect of yet more stuff going on the bedroom walls - he's been muttering in discontent since I found another matching spice rack to house the overflow from the current nail varnish store - but even he has admitted that it looks quite decorative. There's just something so satisfying about being able to see everything, don't you think? And it meant I rediscovered a few things as well as being able to see current favourites.

60s American peapod pendant - vintage fair

70s tiger eye pendant - gift from mother in law

Stolen thunder wooden necklace and stone arrow head

Eclectic Eccentricity Cottontail Hare - won in Jen little bird's blog giveaway

Malachite choker - bought in France or Spain in early teens
{edit: that's my hand, not an alarmingly scrawny neck!}

So, not an impressive ta-dah, but a personally pleasing one. I'll be back later on today to catch up with everyone, so do link up anything you have to share.

  2. Nice one convincing Mr FHCS that another item needed to go up, especially as you were going out the door. Love this idea. I almost bought a 1960s hook like that but didn't know what to do with it, now I do but sadly I have no more wall space in my bedroom.

  3. That looks fab! Very retro! I like that hare necklace. I'm an earrings girl, I try with the necklaces but they make me hot. Work that out! I can't!

  5. Love the jewellery holder that's such a good idea! I've got mine on a mug holder at the moment and the necklaces have definitely turned into jewellery spaghetti... Hope you are having a good Jubilee weekend we must catch up soon xxx

  12. It's a great idea! I hate the evil necklace spaghetti, mine ALWAYS does that!!! That's so funny about your husband, poor him! My boyfriend got really irritated by my insisting I had to blog something today !! I finally joined in!

  13. yay! So glad you got them up. I dont wear neckalces very often either, kinda getting tired of looking at mine. Baby Daddy asked me for a place to hang his ties, I was like there is no room for YOUR things. But I gave him a coat rack so now he has his own taking up space in our loft. Really, he couldnt just hang them all on a hanger?

  14. I love the idea of using clothes/ accessories/ bags as decoration. Why not? We spend so much money and time choosing them, why not let everyone see them. I do something similar with my handbags. They are hanging on my wall and take up a lot of space but look so pretty. Love it!

  15. Great idea- I did this with an over the door hanger type rack but yours is more staggered so they are separated more. I love your nail polish spice rack storage and all about the wooden pendant:)

  18. When I saw the last pic of the choker necklace I got a little creeped out because I thought that was your neck and shoulders and I was going to have to email you about how frail you were looking. Man, I should have had more caffeine this morning!

  19. My mom used to have one of those hangers in the kitchen with oven mitts on it when I was little.
I love your use for it, perfect for necklaces!
And I adore your Pea pod necklace it's AWESOME!

  20. I love that peapod necklace and your teenage choker! I hate necklace spaghetti, too, but I have so much jewellery they'd be no room for my Wall of Misery if I hung it all up as neatly using your genius idea. x

  26. A great collection of necklaces which deserve to be displayed. You seem to have this storage thing well and truly sorted, I'm green with envy!
The peapod necklace is so cool, but your MIL obviously knows your taste well too, and the others would all happily grace my necklace hooks (if only I had some).

  30. I need to copy you on this great rack.
Love your collection of fab necklaces!
The rabbit one and tiger eye is my fave, good for keeping away the evil eye.

  33. The pea pod necklace is soooo cute!!
My Mike hates how I always want to get up so early for boot sales at the weekend. He's been lucky recently with the rain as it means he gets a lie in hehe xxx

  34. That looks great, and I like that it's wood, i bet it looks lovely with that cool earring display do-dad you made. Your awesome necklace collection almost makes me want to wear jewellery, especially the peapod one x

  35. I'm so late commenting! Great idea for storage - I have my necklaces on an old picture frame that I restored, but this is a much quicker option! Really like that malachite choker x

    ReplyDelete
  36. I need to get me one of those. Lovely to see more of your jewellery collection too - I particularly like the pea pod pendant and the cottontail hare!

  37. It looks fab. I admit I have been decluttering since the bump made itself known, so all of the costume jewellery that survived the cull is in a china dish on my dressing table. I love the peas in a pod necklace! I do things like that to Mister Cherry, he doesn't half get grumpy!

  38. I am too a victim of jewellery spaghetti, too many a time I have lost a good necklace to the dreaded tangle. I love what you’ve done, it may be simple but you know what it really works and I think it makes a great wall piece xxx

    ReplyDelete
  39. I should do something like that! I have a jewellery spaghetti over my bedroom mirror (and on my dressing table, where I've just dumped stuff)
But will I ever get round to doing it...? I fear not!

  40. I love the peapod necklace. Mr Style Eyes is similarly enthusiastic about new additions to our bedroom wall in the form of necklace and scarf hangers.

  41. I want the hare necklace. that is all

    bye
