Deco a go go


                                
My husband and I recently became the final people in the world to see The King's Speech (baby sitter shortage). I'm not sure if the Academy were specifically thinking of Mrs Logue's teaset when they handed out the Oscar for Best Picture, but it certainly gave a performance of rare brilliance during the few seconds it was on screen. I'd be hard pressed to pick a favourite vintage era - it depends on my mood - but I do love the 1930s. Just so fabulously decadent and glamorous. And so is this little set of four cups, saucers, side plates and a sugar bowl that I found for £4.50 at the Red Cross. I'm not really sure if it is original art deco - it's just marked Genuine English Bone China underneath - but it's hand-painted and looks the part. I'm not really a gold kind of girl either, so the silver gilding is perfect for me.

I found this little deco cream jug at the same time. It's by Bell China , and perfectly matches my granny tablecloth of a couple of weeks ago.




Apologies for another short post, but I went out last night to a burlesque bar (in my vintage finery, natch) and am a little delicate following many cocktails and a 2am bedtime.

    I'm such a fan of all things Art Deco - this is such a beautiful set of teacups/saucers, Lakota! Completely up my street! And the little creamer/milk jug is adorable too - what bargains and how lovely they match your granny tablecloth too :-)

    Oh I am so please I was not the only one loudly whispering... CHECK OUT THE CHINA .. during the Kings Speech. Hubby had to pat my arm and say "ok, ok, I saw it"
    Nice finds for you there, love the white and silver, very regal, not too glitzy.

    not final people, i promise. i don't even know whether i'm gonna, because all this fuss! there was another film made on the subject by the bbc a few years ago, and i really, really liked that one a lot, so i don't really understand the need for a remake, unless, of course some actors pressed on... i dunno.
    the thirties par contre, why yes! totally understand your hang for the china!

    I havent seen the kings speech...the cinema keep rumbling me when I try and sneak a 7 month old in under my coat *wink* - i think i'm going the dvd route. Loving that china - very deco and a complete bargain I must add. Im also jealous of the Burlesque bar outing. My claim to fame however was that i was at a night club once in my 40's get up and i was ushered into the VIP room and the "famous" (i use that term loosely cause apparently i was the only person there who didnt know who he was) DJ wanted to book me to do a burlesque spot at his next club night - my drunked friend had been going round telling people I was a burlesque dancer. I agreed like a fool and then left quickly never to be seen again! lol. Scarlett x

    Alas, my days of going to the theater are behind me. My MIL will more likley see it at the senior center before I have a chance to obtain the DVD, but when I do I will notice the tea set and remember you.

    I love the 30s too and the simplicity of silver, rather than gold, on crockery. Gorgeous tea set.

    Gorgeous deco china set! And that's incredible that the embroidered tablecloth matches that creamer so perfectly. Don't you just love it when that happens?
